Father’s Day (dedicated to the men who messed up big time)
It means nothing, nothing to me!!!
The very word leaves a habitual emptiness in my chest!!!
Not because I do not have a dad; He is neither of blessed memory nor was my mum knocked up and couldn’t remember his name - I wish.
She bore his name!
I bore his name, inadvertent!!…till another man changed it, hooray!!!
That day was the best day of my life…and will hopefully remain so; For I bore his name with so much disdain. A name that opened doors; the world never understood how and why?
I too, sincerely did not.
I saw the woman I call mother, undergo unbelievable travails in her life… just to feed her children; But I had a “name” that linked my blood ties to the President’s sanctuary. Later in life I found myself sitting at his right hand, wining, dining and agreeing to plans which I later chose to discard because it felt like the ultimate betrayal to my mother.
Linking my success with these people at the last minute when she ran a relay race all alone… would have soiled my hands for life like Lady Macbeth!!!
A reality that made me want to shed my skin like a reptile
The reality he remains my father is unequivocal and indubitable.
So I still call him FATHER and always will.
His loins spat the amazing, strong, beautiful, talented and prodigiously incredible woman I am today; nothing like my mother except for the HEART!!!
Thank You FATHER.
I know some amazing men in the world as luck would have it,
I have friends whose fathers are amazing,
Men for whom will celebrate this day regardless.
I know men who look into their children’s eyes for a living.
Men who change diapers and mix formula
Men who make their children’s futures their objectives and goals
Men who look after their families and protect that which they love with the venom of a python.
Men who carry their little babies high, throw them into the air and catch them with strong arms.
Men whose faith turns their families around
Men whose families crumble when they are no longer there; All you hear is “if daddy was here”!!
Men who make other men want to crawl into a seismic pit of lava and melt with shame.
Men who weaken the knees and moisten the eyes, at the sight of the love they have for their families.
Men you want to seize and capture in an Aladdin’s lamp as your genie…Forever.
Men who are men; Always.
I celebrate you men who are amazing FATHERS
Fantastic men…we love you for being FATHERS.
Fast forward ----- The word FATHER now puts a smile on my face!!!
F-A-T-H-E-R.
