Joe Jackson, Patriarch of Musical Jackson Family, Dies At 89

Joseph Jackson, the patriarch of the Jackson family, dies at 89 on Wednesday after suffering from cancer. Jackson had been battling health issues in recent years. He suffered a stroke while visiting Brazil for his 87th birthday two years ago and was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of a Sao Paulo hospital. Jackson had also suffered minor strokes before that, including one in 2012. On Sunday, just days before his death, he posted a cryptic tweet. "I have seen more sunsets than I have left to see," and "The sun rises when the time comes and whether you like it or not the sun sets when the time comes".  As a music industry manager, his influence on modern pop culture was profound. An ambitious, ruthlessly driven figure, he had a vision of establishing his children as the first African-American global teenage pop stars as far back as the Sixties. Jackson was the driving force behind the world beating music career of his children.

Had it not been for Joseph Jackson, the world would almost certainly never have experienced the pop music phenomena of the Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson, nor seen the success of La Toya Jackson and Janet Jackson. As the father of this remarkable brood of talented children, Joe raised them and guided their careers with unbending single-mindedness. Though he achieved extraordinary results, the process was often painful and controversial.

Rest in Peace Joe Jackson
