Ovamba’s Co-founder Viola Llewellyn Makes the Minority Business Leader Awards List

Viola Llewellyn, co-founder and president of Ovamba Solutions Inc. makes the 2019 Minority Business Leader Awards list. The Minority Business Leader Awards is an initiative of the Washington Business Journal which honors entrepreneurial drive, creativity and success of business owners and leaders of the Greater Washington region's top minority.

Eligible minority groups for the Minority Business Leader Award are; American Indian, Native Alaskan, Hawaiians or Pacific Islander, Asian, African-American, Hispanic or Latino. Viola is one of the 25 honorees who were selected after analysis of their professional accomplishments, community leadership and philanthropy, as well as awards and milestones.


As the co-founder and president of Chevy Chase-based Ovamba Solutions, Viola Llewellyn helps provide African business owners with access to investors, banks and technology. The African American of Cameroonian descent featured in the April 2018 issue of Vanity Fair as one of the 34 black women who have raised more than $1 million for a tech company startup.
The company launched in 2013 and has served over 300 customers so far with more than 1,000 transactions in Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire. With a team of nearly 40 employees, Ovamba provides African merchants access to business growth support through their mobile application which features a natural language chat function, that translates many of Africa’s 2,000 languages, guaranteeing customer comprehension and satisfaction.
The Ovamba platform’s uniqueness lies in a built-in algorithm that measures investment risk. With this technology, investors can look at demographics like where business owners live, what they do, the psychology behind the owners’ willingness to pay and their ability to pay.
With the objective of changing the narrative, positioning Africa as the continent of opportunities and providing more solutions to the African Market, Viola Llewellyn will be leading Ovamba to the next level as they prospect expanding to Senegal, Sudan and Mali this year.
