THANKS TO MICHAEL B. JORDAN AND RYAN COOGLER, AFRICA’S GREAT MANSA MUSA WILL SOON BE ON THE BIG SCREEN.

The Project

Director Ryan Coogler and actor Michael B. Jordan, the duo that always work magic whenever they work together, seek to make influential videos to inform viewers on the contributions of the Black community throughout history. This work is going to take us way back in history to the 14th century and shed more light on the life and achievements of Mansa Musa, the 10th Mansa or “Sultan” or “emperor” of the wealthy West African Islamic empire.

“You got to tell stories in today, or in the future,” says Jordan. “Or can we go back even further? There’s always one period that people want to go back to, but can we go back to Hannibal? Or Mansa Musa, destroying economies as he traveled? Can we go back to the Egyptians?”

He, according to Money, is the richest man in history. He lived between 1280 and 1337. Mansa Musa was a very powerful and influential African ruler, who ruled in what is known as the Southern Mauritania, Mali, and some surrounding territories. His was a land full of gold, which he gave out frivolously during his pilgrimage to Mecca, causing economic crises to cities not accustomed to such wealth. Musa became the first Muslim ruler from West Africa to make the extremely tedious journey into Mecca for a pilgrimage in 1324. Through his journeys and meetings with rulers from Europe and The Middle East, he succeeded to put Mali on the map of the world.

During his 25-year reign, he urbanized the center city-Timbuktu which still exists and is inhabited up to this day. He also revolutionized education throughout his empire by returning with top Islamic scholars to help boost education throughout his empire. He opened one of the world’s first and thriving universities in Timbuktu. This university bright students from all over the world and helped set a new unprecedented level for Islamic education throughout his empire.

Described by some sources as the richest man who has ever walked the earth, Mansa Musa is and remains one of the most influential black rulers who made their mark in putting Africa forward on the map of the world. Hopefully, the work of Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler is going to stamp this permanently, in the minds and hearts of those who are passionate about the great contributors who worked hard to the advancement of the African peoples. Africa is truly, great! We all stay in expectation of when the film finally premieres.
