Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae. The genus is quite large, comprising several hundred species that are native to warm temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world.

The flowers and other parts of the plant are used to make medicine.

People use hibiscus for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, to increase the production of breast milk and many other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support most of these uses.

In China, it is often referred as nose tea. 

In Africa, Latin America, and Caribbean Islands where it is used to prepare a drink called Sorrel

Different parts of the plant are used to prepare jams, soups, and sauces.
