The Micheal & Mauritia Patcha Foundation Cancer Walk To Fight and Win Cancer

Over 150 participants of different age groups took to the streets of Douala on Saturday, October 19th 2019 to do a two kilometer walk in solidarity with The Patcha Foundation and say ‘NO TO CANCER’. This one- day event kicked off as early as 6.30 am with the arrival of participants at Post Bonanjo where a free cancer screening was offered before the walk kicked off. The rains did not stop determined participants who marched from Bonanjo to Akwa to Bali and back to Post, Bonanjo.

Newly appointed Patcha Foundation Global Ambassador, Awu Sing Song was part of the walk as his first order of service and later performed his hit song “Yayayo” to an excited crowd after the walk. Though a brief program, it had quite a number of enriching activities like free diabetes and high blood pressure screenings, Cancer talks, Breast-Self Examination Lessons, Balloon Release in honor of Cancer patients and Awards. Dr.Xavier Tchetnya presented a short talk on breast cancer after the walk with a focus on current statistics, prevention, importance of early diagnosis and a practical training on how to self- examine breast. A Question/Answer session followed the talk and also a heartfelt testimony from a Breast cancer survivor.

Given that it was a day to walk and conquer cancer, it could not have ended without acknowledging and awarding prizes to various participants like youngest, the oldest , most resilient walker and those who’ve taken part in the walk since it started a few years ago.To honor those who’ve lost their battle with cancer and those who are battling with the realities of the disease, participants released pink and white balloons into the sky.

The event came to a close at 10a.m with a word of thanks from the Micheal and Mauritia Patcha Foundation Founder Representative, Jacquie Patcha. The fight against cancer continues with the Patcha Foundation. Together, we can fight and win the war against cancer.
